An Interview With Heather Leedham

How many years have you been selling travel?

20 + years

What are your hobbies?

I love to travel, but that should come as no surprise! I also love food and consider myself a bit of a foodie. I enjoy seeking out new food experiences, and learning about how other cultures come together with food. Whether it is a beer festival in England, tapas in Spain, pizza in Sorrento, roti and doubles in Trinidad or a fresh blue cheese accompanied with a baguette in France, I look forward to each new experience. I also enjoy cooking and playing around with different ingredients and building recipes from the ground up, but most of all I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I'm also a wine lover and have travelled to a number of wine countries, to taste and pair with cheese and chocolate!

What type of resort activities do you favor? ie water sports, lounging by the pool, etc?

I love the sun and anything you can enjoy under it. Relaxing on the beach, swimming, and snorkeling, playing a game of beach volleyball, taking out a kayak, or going for a long walk. I also love playing with sand, and making sandcastles!

What are your favorite destinations?

The Mediterranean, especailly Italy and Greece! England and Scotland (my roots!) Mexico and Costa Rica! I love to visit the Caribbean at least once a year for the warmth of the Caribbean Sea and fun in the sun. The Caribbean is a great choice for a restful, relaxing and rejuvenating holiday. However I like to mix it up by traveling to Europe to experience, rich culture, history and food.

What languages do you speak?

English, but discovering/learning French again and I speak Spanglish as well!

Do you have a family? and if so what type of family travel have you done?

I have a young family, both of my children are under 7, and we have travelled a lot together. My 4 year old has been to Florida 4 times, and my 6 year old, 6 times. We've enjoyed all the direct flight Caribbean destinations from Halifax. Beaches in Jamaica & Turks and Caicos to the Azul Fives in Mexico, and the Iberostar Laguna Azul in Varadero Cuba, including a day trip into Havana the children were only 2 and 4 years old. And, just returning from the NEW Nickelodeon Resort in Punta Cana! What an amazing family resort experience, the waterpark and character experiences are a must! We have found that All Inclusive is a great and simple way to travel with a young family. It's nice to be stationary, unpack once, and the direct flights are perfect. It's nice to be able to enjoy relaxing family time, in the pool, on the beach and in the ocean. You don't have to prepare one meal, and buffet restaurants are perfect with so many options. You can find something for everyone no matter the age.
