Price quoted is per person, based on double occupancy, and is subject to change in case of adverse currency fluctuation. Single supplement: +$869 CDN. Land only: $3567 per person. A non-refundable deposit of $250 per person is due at time of booking (first come, first served). Final payment is due by July 15, 2019. Cancellation insurance is strongly recommended and may be purchased at time of first deposit. Some itinerary details are subject to change. All payments are made to Maritime Travel. A valid Passport is required with at least 6 months validity “after” scheduled return date to Canada. Please advise us if you have any special dietary requirements.

IRELAND / SCOTLAND HERITAGE TOUR

DAY 1: SUN SEPT 15
Halifax, 10:30 pm flight direct to Dublin overnight. Arrive at 7:33 am Monday. Meet our Irish guide/driver Brian Rice at the airport.

DAY 2: MON SEPT 16
Drive to “Kilkenny Shop” downtown Dublin for breakfast. Do Dublin city sights with our guide. Tour Guinness Storehouse and have an aerial view of the city and a pint? Shop and/or visit optional museums with Mary Anne (Nat. Museum bog bodies and jewels, Book of Kells at Trinity College, St Stephens Green etc.) or go on your own to shop and look around. Check into our hotel. This evening you are free to roam Grafton St., Temple Bar traditional music pubs etc. and grab a bite or you may make an early night if you are sleepy. Dublin City Center Holiday Inn Express awaits you!

DAY 3: TUES SEPT 17
Leave Dublin and head south west. Travel thru Co. Carlow into Kilkenny. Do lunch and hop on the town trolley for a tour of this medieval town. Onward to Jerpoint, Thomastown (home to former Cistercian monasteries) for a tourist tour. Go to Dungarvan town to see historic landmarks where some emigrants left and then settled in Miramichi. Eat downtown or at the hotel restaurant. Sleep well at Park Hotel Dungarvan. An indoor pool is available for a swim here.

DAY 4: WED SEPT 18
Off we go for a private group tour of Youghal Clock Tower (to complement our N.B. Bathurst-Youghall Beach roots) with town council rep. and see medieval walls and town highlights. Drive to Midleton for Jameson Whiskey Distillery tour and visit the new Choctaw Memorial site. Tour Cobh Heritage Museum. Titanic had its last port of call here. GROUP DINNER this evening at our Park Hotel Dungarvan.

DAY 5: THURS SEPT 19
See Black Rock Castle en route to Cork city. Tour Cork city and shop or browse until noon. Make a short stop in Bandon (where forebearers of our New Bandon parish Gloucester. Co. left c. the 1820’s.) Take a little break and browse on your own or do a town walking tour with Mary Anne. The Christ Church Cathedral is the oldest Protestant Church in Ireland and it is now a Visitor’s Center with fabulous displays. Drive to the “1670’s star fort” Charles Fort in Kinsale. Visit the pretty town that North Tetagouche was originally called after….Kinsale, the gourmet capital of Ireland, and you may choose to eat in one of their renowned restaurants. Now… prepare thyself for a town ghost tour before going to east Cork city’s Maryborough Hotel and Spa. A little evening or morning swim there might feel good??

DAY 6: FRI SEPT 20
Drive in the south west countryside to the coast at Old Head of Kinsale (we visit the memorial to the Lusitania which sank in 1915), Court McSherry, Clonakilty, Timoleague, Abbeystrewery and Baltimore… all places where many northern N.B. ancestors lived. We tour the Skibbereen Heritage Center and we walk in the 17 standing stones of Drombeg Stone Circle, dating to 150 BC. Return to Cork city and have DINNER TOGETHER at Maryborough Hotel and Spa.

DAY 7: SAT SEPT 21
Early departure. Head north on N20. Grab a coffee in Tipperary? Lunch in Limerick? Drive to the west coast and experience the famous Cliffs of Moher. Doolin nearby is an Irish music haven. Onward to Galway, check in at our hotel and prepare for dinner and cruise on the Corrib Princess. Enjoy DINNER TOGETHER on the boat. Will we see the sun go down on Galway Bay? Overnight at Jury’s Inn.

DAY 8: SUN SEPT 22
Early departure. Drive by the fields of Athenry. Head east by Ballinsloe, Athlone, Mullingar, town of Kells and be in Monaghan for lunch. Choose your pub/cafe in the town square. Drive on to Belfast. Check out the King’s Pub (oldest one in Belfast), not far from our hotel, the Holiday Inn Express, Belfast City Center.

DAY 9: MON SEPT 23
Do a Belfast city tour with Brian! He explains this city of Great Britain. Visit state-of-the-art Titanic Museum. Treat yourself to boarding the SS Nomadic, restored to her original glory. If your ancestors are from Ulster, you may drop in to the Ulster Scots Center with Mary Anne and see the history walls. You can shop! Eat! Maybe go to live theatre? Belfast city has lots to see and do. Hunker down again at the Holiday Inn Express, Belfast City Center.

DAY 10: TUES SEPT 24
Board the early ferry and leave Northern Ireland by crossing the North Channel of the Irish Sea to Scotland. Wave to the town of the song fame I Wish I was in Carrickfergus on our way by. Mull of Kintyre is off in the distance, over our left shoulder. Have a snack on the ferry before docking in Cairnryan. Explore the coastline of southwest Scotland. Visit Ayr and Troon and this region where Maritimers have ancestral roots. Our DINNER TOGETHER and overnight are at Marine Hotel, Troon.

DAY 11: WED SEPT 25
On to Loch Lomond thru the region where ‘Harry Potter’ was filmed. Will Ye Go to the Highlands? Pass by Fort William. Stay at Ben Nevis Hotel and Leisure Club. DINNER TOGETHER.

DAY 12: THURS SEPT 26
Now for some links with Nova Scotia; Glenfinnan, Arisaig, Morar, Knoydart and Mallaig then All Aboard the ferry to the Isle of Skye. There is lots of scenery to take in and history to appreciate. Visit Eilean Donan Castle (the most photographed!) and travel to Loch Ness. Climb aboard and keep your eyes peeled since we are doing a 2 hour “freedom tour” and you just might see a monster! In these regions of Scotland ‘Outlander’ was filmed so you may recognize the hills from the TV series. Unwind in Inverness at our hotel—-Kingsmill. We will be here for 2 nights.

DAY 13: FRI SEPT 27
Visit various sites in the Inverness area; former WW II camp of Canadian Forestry Corps in Beauly, the battlefield at Culloden, the Fraser castle and other spots in Inverness. Take some shopping time, walking time or relaxing time before returning to the Kingsmill Hotel. Sleep soundly.

DAY 14: SAT SEPT 28
Drive in an easterly direction thru northern Scotland to the coast. Stop in Stonehaven and visit the Donnattar Castle. Continue south along the North Sea and see the famous golf course in St. Andrews, part of the Fife region. Arrive in Edinburgh. Attend a Scottish CONCERT/DINNER TOGETHER. Taste the haggis! Sleep well at Edinburgh Airport Premiere Inn.

DAY 15: SUN SEPT 29
Visit Edinburgh Castle early, before the crowds. You need to see the jewels and crowns. Tour the city and hop on the Royal Yacht Britannia to check out the Queen’s family quarters!! Stop for a visit at Bannockburn, a famous site in Scottish history. Drive to Glasgow. Overnight at Holiday Inn Express, Glasgow Airport. Repack and organize your things for tomorrow’s flight back to Canada.

DAY 16: MON SEPT 30
Arise early to catch the 9:35 flight from Glasgow, direct to Halifax. Be in NS at 11:47 noon (4-hour time difference means that it is 15:47 in Scotland).
