Our Italy Expert 

This intimate, worry-free, Italian adventure is designed and hosted by our own Charline Fortier, a Maritime Travel counsellor for more than 30 years. Charline is an expert on all things Italian, and has been to Italy more than 30 times – on her own, with her wine-expert husband, and hosting groups. “I feel more at home in my beloved Italy, than I do in Canada,” she will tell you. Charline loves to share her secrets… whether it’s a favourite restaurant where she’s friends with the owners, the best little gelato shop, or the best shoe store in town. Charline speaks Italian, English and French.

ITALIAN TREASURES WITH CHARLINE FORTIER ITINERARY*

Wednesday, May 11 - Overseas travel to Rome, Italy.

Thursday, May 12 - Arrive at Rome airport. You will be met by a Maritime Travel representative at the international arrivals area. You will pick up your transfer and head out for your first glimpse of Rome enroute to our centrally located, charming hotel - just two blocks from the Colosseum. Upon check-in, you can head up to the rooftop terrace for a wonderful view of the Colosseum. Take the rest of the afternoon to rest and rejuvenate. Later this evening, join Charline on our hotel’s rooftop terrace for a pre-dinner drink while enjoying a wonderful view of the Colosseum. Then we will head to a local trattoria just a few minutes away for a delicious dinner with wine. To bed early this evening to rest up for our adventure ahead. D

Friday May 13 - Enjoy a delicious breakfast this morning, before meeting up in the lobby for our transfer to Vatican City. Once there, we will meet up with our private guide, Cinzia Cortese. She will make the world of the Vatican City and St. Peter’s Basilica come alive. Afterwards, lunch will be on your own. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure for you to explore Rome’s amazing nooks and crannies, and fabulous shops. Charline will point the way. This evening, you can join Charline at one of her favourite local Trattorias, or have dinner on your own. B

Saturday, May 14 - We will have an early-morning start today. After breakfast, we check out of our hotel before heading out for our walking tour of Rome. Highlights include visits to the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Piazza Venezia, and more. Following our tour, we will board our private coach and head north to Tuscany. Our destination is Panzano in Chianti. Once there, we will check into the lovely 14th-Century Villa Sangiovese, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Later, we will enjoy a Cellar Tour, wine tasting, and a 4-course dinner with wine pairings at Villa Vignamaggio before turning in for the night. BD

Sunday, May 15 - We will sleep in a bit and enjoy breakfast at the hotel We will then join our cooking class at the villa, where we will enjoy local Tuscan wines, make our own lunch and enjoy it while taking incredible views of vineyards and olive groves. The balance of the day is free to enjoy on your own. BL

Monday, May 16 - Then it’s time to say ciao to Tuscany, as we make our way to the beautiful Cinque Terre region, particularly, Levanto, our home for the next two nights. This evening we will gather for a delicious pizza dinner with wine in a small, local Trattoria. BD

Tuesday, May 17 - Today is a completely free day. Following breakfast, you can set out on your own to explore the five famous villages of Cinque Terre, or join Charline, who will lead the way. You may also opt to visit the lovely beach located in our small village of Levanto. You may also opt for a day trip to visit Portofino. Charline can help get you on your way. Today, lunch and dinner are on your own. B

Wednesday, May 18
- Today we say Arrivederci to Cinque Terre and head to beautiful San Gimignano. We will have time to exploring and shopping in this walled, fortress town with its traffic-free centre. Charline will point out some of the most fascinating sites. This evening we will arrive in Florence, our home for the next three nights. This evening supper is on your own. Charline will be happy to make some recommendations, or you can join her at one of her favourite trattorias. B

Thursday, May 19 - Enjoy breakfast at our hotel. We will then meet up with our private guide, Cinzia Cortese, for a walking tour of fascinating Florence which will include the Piazza Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria. Lunch and the balance of the afternoon and evening is at leisure for you to explore this amazing city on your own. B

Friday, May 20 - Enjoy breakfast at our hotel. Make sure you eat a good breakfast, as this will be our shopping day in Florence. Charline will point you in the right direction and highlight some of the best places for the best prices. Leather, silk, jewelry, shoe stores, handbags, clothing. You will be overwhelmed. You can also visit Michelangelo’s David or the famous Uffizi museum. Lunch is on your own. This evening we will all meet up with Charline for dinner with wine at one of her favourite trattorias – a real treat. BD

Saturday, May 21 - Following breakfast, we will say farewell to Florence, and make our way to Garda. We will arrive in Torri del Benaco on Lake Garda this afternoon. The day is free for you to explore this small yet beautiful town on the eastern shore of Italy’s largest lake. B

Sunday, May 22 - Free Day on Lake Garda. Torri del Benaco has a pretty as a picture historic centre curved around a lovely shell-shaped harbour. Going for a walk through the narrow streets dotted with boutiques and gelaterias. Sitting for a coffee or a meal in one of the many bars and restaurants along the town’s promenades guarantees charming views and it’s a great way to experience the delights of the Italian way of life. Crisscrossing Lake Garda on-board of a ferry is a pleasure like no other. The journey is short but very beautiful. B

Monday, May 23 - Goodby Lake Garda, on we go to Venice. With an afternoon arrival, there is time to take in a Gondala ride, sample the local seafood, and explore Venice on your own. Charline will point you in the right direction. B Tuesday, May 24 - Following breakfast, we will join our private guide, Andrea, for a walking tour of Venice. This will include the Piazza San Marco, the Basilica San Marco, and Doges Palace. This afternoon, join us for a visit to the island of Burano, known for its fishermen and lace-makers. Tonight, we will enjoy a fabulous farewell dinner and toast our new friends and many amazing experiences. BD

Wednesday, May 25 - This morning, many of us will bid a reluctant arrivederci to Venice and Italy, as we pick up our transfers to the Venice airport. B
